Keeping Away From Crappy Products
If you haven’t noticed, I created quite a stir when I spoke out about crappy products the other day.
(If you missed it, you can see it at tomeymarketing.com/im-truth-newsletter/totally-and-utterly-disgusted )
After making that post, I have gotten asked so many questions about how to protect yourself from crappy products. So, I thought I’d give you some tips on how to keep from getting taken by people who create crappy products.
Before I start in on that, I would like to say that just because you or I think that a product is crappy doesn’t mean that it IS crappy. Everyone has a unique opinion. I know a lot about marketing. Both online and offline, and when I label a product crappy it’s because I don’t think that it’s good for my readers or myself. That’s all that matters to me…
Okay, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about how to keep from buying crappy products.
1. Unsubscribe from anyone’s list who is only pushing products and not educating you. Look, if someone is just sending you emails telling you to buy this or buy that, how can you trust that they wont send you an email about a crappy product? Only listen to those people who try to educate you. They are actually trying to help you by educating you before you buy a product from them.
That’s why I always test a product before I send it to my readers, and I only send product recommendations out on topics that I have educated my readers about. Most of the time I give an education within the email I am promoting a product.
Bottom line… If you’re not getting more from people than just a promotional email get off their list and find someone who you trust and listen to them.
2. Do judge a book by its cover. Not always, but most of the time if you come across a sales letter or website that looks like crap, has terrible graphics, and all in all looks unprofessional you better keep away. Chances are you’re in for a crappy product.
Take a look at a few of my sales letters…
www.AdsenseNewbieVideos.com
www.RSSCashSecrets.com
www.UndergroundMarketingStrategy.com
www.AdsenseGirl.com
I work my butt off, and pay my programmer money to make sure those sites look great. Why? Because I want everything about me and my business to show people that I put everything I can into everything I do to make sure that my readers and customers know they are only getting the best. All the way from how things are packaged to what’s in the package.
When going after that next purchase take a look at the quality of the surroundings of the product that is being offered.
3. Search for product reviews. Finding reviews for products is a great way to see if a product is worth it for you or not. Just be careful here. A lot of marketers will write a good review on a product just to get the sale from you. Make sure that the review covers what the person did and did not like. If it’s one big sales letter find another review.
I have two sites that I review products related to Internet marketing at…
www.RealProductReviews.com
www.ResellRightsProductReviews.com
These three ways will keep you pretty safe, but there’s no way to keep from getting a crappy product here and there. I spend about $30K a year on Internet marketing related stuff, and even following my own rules, and having the knowledge that I do, I still buy some crappy products. They are still valuable to me though because it tells me who not to partner with or buy from.
Applying the first point I talked about though will for sure save you from a lot of wasted time and money. Only listen to those who truly have something to teach you and you can’t go wrong!

Hi Liz,
I’ve been so busy with a Dr. Mani course that I’ve spent little time keeping up with my emails, but I noted that you spoke about your uncle and I wanted to tell you that my prayers are with you for him and for your family in this time.
Thanks for all,
McKay
Thanks so much McKay! I appreciate your kind words…
